It’s been four years since Archives of IT (AIT) first launched a range of schools’ resources, which, with most recent series of eight lesson plans, now total 30.
Our Mission to inspire young students
Our mission statement from when we were established as a charity in 2015, is Capturing the Past and Inspiring the Future and of the latter’s three aims one is to: Inspire young students at schools and colleges to understand the opportunities and aspire to a career in IT.
We believe encouraging youngsters to embrace their technology and digital skills could lead them to great careers and it supports the Government’s Careers Strategy which states that it wants ‘every person, no matter what their background and no matter where they are from, to be able to build a rewarding career’.
In developing these resources, we have sought advice from teachers by working with a dozens of schools, the Computing at School network and the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT). We have also demonstrated the lessons at three careers fairs and have received positive feedback from teachers and pupils.

Our AIT Education programme has been supported by donations from leading figures in the IT industry such as Sir Robin Saxby, Engineer and founding CEO of Arm, who recently gave a presentation at Little Thurrock Primary School in Essex.
All of the resources, which have been designed in accordance with the Government’s Careers Strategy of 2017 and the Gatsby Benchmarks for schools produced in 2018, run alongside the Teach Computing Curriculum. They are available to download on our Teacher Tools page and the Times Educational Supplement (TES) Resources site where they have had hundreds of downloads in the UK and internationally from Canada to Russia, Australia to the Middle East, Europe and South East Asia.
AIT create resources which support the understanding and increased awareness of the IT industry, its history and children’s own futures within it.
