Dave Grainger

Dave Grainger worked as an engineer for Honeywell and then DEC, and was promoted to managing and developing the services arm of the company in the UK and USA. In 1975 a new plant was opened in Ayr, Scotland and Dave was asked to replace the manager who was leaving. After DEC, Dave worked for Xerox as their Head of Worldwide Services.

Angela Shore

Angela’s first job in computing was with a Scottish company called Fortronic where she worked as an assembler programmer. She then moved tor ITL and wrote file system software – a forerunner of Microsoft Office. Angela went to work for DEC in 1986 where she was a software consultant and programmer.

Professor Edwin Candy

Professor Edwin Candy cut his teeth helping build command and control radio systems in his native Australia. He conceived and created the Universal Mobile Telephone System 3G specification with 25 partners.  This standard was the basis for 3G mobile communications incorporating Internet services.

David Clarke MBE

David Clarke spent nearly thirty years involved with IT systems, firstly in the supply side and then from 1995 to 2002 as a Chief Executive in the Virgin group of companies, and then Trinity Mirror plc, both companies being highly reliant on the use of IT based systems for their success. David became Group Chief Executive of the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, in May 2002.

Muffy Calder OBE

Muffy Calder is Vice Principal and Head of College of Science and Engineering at Glasgow University.  She is also a Professor of Formal Methods. In 2011, she was awarded the OBE for services to computer science.

Geoff Shingles CBE

Geoff Shingles CBE joined Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) UK when it had three people in 1965. DEC was a Boston-based minicomputer company mostly then serving the technical and scientific communities. In his first year the PDP-8 was launched. It was the first commercially-successful minicomputer with over 50,000 sold worldwide during its life. He was soon MD of the UK and stayed with DEC until he was 55 after which he split his time between IT start-ups.
