Sue Daley

Sue Daley is the big data and AI expert at techUK, the trade body for IT vendors.  She is a leading figure in the development of ethics for the digital world.  Her aim is to build a culture of trust and confidence between all the parties providing and handling data.  She began her career in government relations, representing clients to government and parliament.  She was a senior policy advisor at the Confederation of British Industry where she helped run the CBI’s EBusiness Council.  She worked for five years for Symantec, the IT security expert company.   In 2019 she was voted one of the UK’s top 100 experts on big data.  In 2016 she swam the English Channel in just under 24 hours.

Sir Edmund Burton

Sir Edmund Burton is a retired general and an experienced and highly innovative senior executive with extensive experience within the UK defence and security community operating at both ministerial and board level.  He has been a staunch advocate of the importance of treating information as a key business asset and of protecting it accordingly.  Formerly executive chairman of the UK national Police IT Organisation leading a major business improvement programme, a knowledge adviser to the Cabinet Office, other government departments, private sector and academia on information assurance processes and the need for education and training.

Dr Andrew Herbert OBE retired in 2011, after a long and eventful career in IT.  He has been a lecturer and researcher, an entrepreneur, a manager of SMEs, and finally Director and then Chairman of Microsoft Research EMEA.

Dr Robert (Bob) Nowill

Bob Nowill has had a career as an IT security expert at the Government Communications Head Quarters (GCHQ) and at BT. He helped respond to the change of stance of GCHQ from combating the USSR in the cold war to the more asymmetric challenges faced today. He now works to try to bridge the skills gap between the pool of talent available to combat cyber security issues and the need for more expertise to achieve higher security

Dr Michael Taylor

Michael Taylor has had a varied career, much of it working on sensitive systems. He did pioneering work on speech recognition for use by pilots and helped the Metropolitan Police to “join up” its databases. He went on to become the IT champion of the UK’s joint intelligence committee within the cabinet office.

Alan Pollard

Alan had an Army career spanning 32 years and rose to the rank of Brigadier. After the Army Alan spent the next 10 years as an IT Consultant working with a number of multinational blue-chip companies such as EDS, Boots, British American Tobacco, H&W Shipyards, BAE Systems & Walkers Foods. He was President of the BCS 2008-09.
