Alan Pollard

Alan had an Army career spanning 32 years and rose to the rank of Brigadier. After the Army Alan spent the next 10 years as an IT Consultant working with a number of multinational blue-chip companies such as EDS, Boots, British American Tobacco, H&W Shipyards, BAE Systems & Walkers Foods. He was President of the BCS 2008-09.

Geoff McMullen

AFter 6 years at UNIVAC Geoff was recruited by Shell where he stayed for neraly 20 years. He was BCS President 2001- 02 and has also been Managing Director then Chief Executive of UKERNA. Geoff was recruited by the Cabinet Office as a High-Risk team leader for Gateway reviews and carried out some 20 between 2006 and 2010.

Sir Brian Jenkins

Sir Brian wrote the standard textbook on the subject of the use of computers in auditing: An Audit Approach to Computers published in 1978. It was used internationally and translate into several languages. He chaired the Woolwich Building Society starting in 1995 and was President of the BCS 1997-98.

Sir Bryan Carsberg

Sir Bryan Carsberg started work as an accountant in accountancy partnerships and then moved to become professor of accounting at the London School of Economics. While there and subsequently at Manchester he started advising the government. He was the first choice to head Oftel, the telecommunications regulation organisation set to in the mid 1984 when BT was privatised to supervise it.

Sir Peter Gershon

Graduating from Cambridge with a First in mathematics was a perfect start to an accelerated graduate career which brought Peter to the board of ICL. This was a springboard for Peter to move to the board of GEC and ultimately as the first Chief Executive of Government Commerce where he worked to identify where the government could save £6bn, which he did in 2003 producing the Gershon Review in 2005.

David Butler

David Butler worked in the public sector first as an accountant then as a programmer and systems analyst. He moved into consultancy with Urwick Diebold and then decided to set up on his own with George Cox and they formed Butler Cox. Butler Cox was sold to Computer Science Corporation for £22 million. David took on a portfolio of jobs after Butler Cox, has written two science fiction books and engaged in local politics.

Geoff Unwin

Geoff Unwin helped build CapGemini into a world-leading computer services company after running Hoskyns, who he was recruited by in 1968 to work on problems for customers using time sharing computers. He turned CapGemini into an integrated global consultancy. Geoff pioneered the use of Indian programmers to develop systems off shore.

David Potter CBE

David Potter CBE successfully straddled the worlds on academia and IT entrepreneurship. He started as an academic and then as an investor before founding Psion, Potter Scientific Instruments, in 1980. Psion became the largest microcomputer software vendor in the UK selling databases, utilities and computer games. By the early 1980s he had built a strong team and Psion was profitable. He decided to launch a mobile personal computer, the Psion organiser
